Back to Work

BACKTOWORKLOGO[1]

Well, I’ve been away from the songwriting blog for a while… Very busy at the day job and there were changes in my hosting/server that caused me some problems (the blog was actually down for a couple of weeks)…

Anyway, I’ll be back to pass on songwriting tidbits in the near future…

Ci vedimes and may the Muse be with you…

World Leader/Songwriter

Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono - Wikipedia

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s love of music was publicly acknowledged by Australia’s prime minister on March 17, 2010, after he was presented with a handmade guitar during his three-day visit to the Australia.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said he hoped Yudhoyono, who has a well-known penchant for singing and songwriting, would enjoy the Australian-made Maton acoustic guitar

Yudhoyono, who recently released his third album, “Ku Yakin Sampai di Sana” (“I’m Certain I’ll Get There”), featuring songs he had written performed by prominent Indonesian singers, accepted the gift with a smile.

I’d like to accept free guitars too… but I’ll settle for a Muse to guide me…

Pasquale Policelli – My Father

papa closeup 3.jpg

Pasquale Policelli, my father, passed away one month ago today. He spent the past two years prior to his death fighting hard – lung cancer, lobectomy, COPD and asthma – left him struggling to breathe at the best of times… a bout with pneumonia in the Summer of 2007 left him on oxygen, and two more bouts with pneumonia this Fall led to his passing… He kept his wits about him throughout and he never lost his positive spirit, even with all he had to face he was always there for my mother, my brothers and me, his grandchildren, and all his brothers and sisters…

My father was not an educated man, but he is the smartest man I’ve known and I will miss his love and support, always tempered by his guidance and wisdom. I hope even the tiniest bit of his spirit is embodied in me and that I can live up to his high standards. He never once complained while dealing with his illness these past couple of years. He never once asked “Why me?”. He only asked that he not needlessly suffer, and his peaceful passing during the night, in his sleep, was an answer to that request.

Thank you for indulging this blog post of mine. I had to go into at least a little detail about him – he deserves no less… and so much more…

I wrote the following verse some time ago from a song entitled My Papa’s Clothes:

I want to wear my papa’s clothes
I want to know what papa knows
The pistol dreams he once supposed
The barrel-chested man with the strength of gods inside him
His fear of life subsiding
Secure in the path he chose
I want to wear my papa’s clothes

Again – Weeks Without Writing…

Well, back in May of this year, I was T-boned in an intersection and endured a painful recovery from those injuries… See my post here

Now, a few weeks back, just as I finished therapy I underwent from that accident, I was involved in another accident and went right back to square one (or zero… or whatever)… Thus, I haven’t been blogging or playing guitar or writing…

But, with the Muse as my witness, I will write again… (blog & new songs)

4 Weeks – No Play, No Write, Makes Me A Sad Boy

This post has nothing to do with songwriting, other than I’ll probably have some material once I start playing guitar again… As you can see, my two-week old car was totaled in an intersection when I was T-boned back on May 1/08. The passenger side was hit, my SUV was tossed onto the driver’s side and I (luckily) crawled out the moon roof and walked away (sort of). I was taken to the hospital and I’ve been suffering, at times, excruciating pain in my right neck/shoulder/arm…

So I haven’t been blogging as much… I haven’t been able to play guitar, nor have I been writing… But, this too shall pass… It’s been 4 weeks, so I thought I’d commemorate the event and have a record of it online somewhere…

I guess the Muse was with me… Be careful out there on the roads!

Turntabling – A Lot Has Happened

Ion USB Turntable

Since my last post… Just been super-busy, songwriting-wise and otherwise…

Personally, I celebrated a milestone birthday surrounded by family… which was great… My lovely wife gave me an Ion USB Turntable that I was hinting at (my old turntable had died, but now with the new one hooked up to my stereo and/or my laptop, I’ll be able to enjoy the old LPs and digitize them!). You can read a ThinkGeek review about this product here.

More posts to follow shortly…

Vacation

This pic is just a view from Blue Mountain of Wasaga Beach… far off in the distance…

I’ve been on vacation… fooling around with a few drum loops in Sonar to see how they work and playing the guitar most nights (revisiting the old tunes). Having a great time with my wife and daughter… Vera & I have been married 3000 days now (as of August 9/06) and I’m truly lucky to be with her. Funny… I stopped writing since I’ve been happy… most of my songwriting occurred when I was a walking heartbreak. I really think I need to get those down in some publishable form for my own therapy to move on and write some “happy” tunes about being a husband and father… to the wonderful women in my life…
