Pasquale Policelli – My Father

papa closeup 3.jpg

Pasquale Policelli, my father, passed away one month ago today. He spent the past two years prior to his death fighting hard – lung cancer, lobectomy, COPD and asthma – left him struggling to breathe at the best of times… a bout with pneumonia in the Summer of 2007 left him on oxygen, and two more bouts with pneumonia this Fall led to his passing… He kept his wits about him throughout and he never lost his positive spirit, even with all he had to face he was always there for my mother, my brothers and me, his grandchildren, and all his brothers and sisters…

My father was not an educated man, but he is the smartest man I’ve known and I will miss his love and support, always tempered by his guidance and wisdom. I hope even the tiniest bit of his spirit is embodied in me and that I can live up to his high standards. He never once complained while dealing with his illness these past couple of years. He never once asked “Why me?”. He only asked that he not needlessly suffer, and his peaceful passing during the night, in his sleep, was an answer to that request.

Thank you for indulging this blog post of mine. I had to go into at least a little detail about him – he deserves no less… and so much more…

I wrote the following verse some time ago from a song entitled My Papa’s Clothes:

I want to wear my papa’s clothes
I want to know what papa knows
The pistol dreams he once supposed
The barrel-chested man with the strength of gods inside him
His fear of life subsiding
Secure in the path he chose
I want to wear my papa’s clothes

SingShot

It has nothing to do with songwriting, but a lot to do with songs… it’s an online karaoke extravaganza and I got a kick out of my wife, my wife’s best friend and my daughter singing tunes on the site… it’s called SingShot and I wish that I had thought of it first! A bunch of songs that many people like (not all are my taste certainly) – and none of those songs are mine!

Check it out… if you join and start recording on SingShot please let me know by replying to this post or emailing me and I’ll be sure to check it out…

Ci vedimes…

Christmas Tidings

While personal matters meant this wasn’t the greatest Christmas for my parents and brothers (it’s always a joy for my daughter though, she’s so young and full of wonder at Christmas), I did just want to keep this blog going and update on the status of some great Christmas presents courtesy of my ever-loving supportive wife:

So, I’ve definitely been spoiled (thank you sweetie) and will now have no excuse not to record/produce some decent demos…

Ci vedimes and Happiest of New Years!

Vacation

This pic is just a view from Blue Mountain of Wasaga Beach… far off in the distance…

I’ve been on vacation… fooling around with a few drum loops in Sonar to see how they work and playing the guitar most nights (revisiting the old tunes). Having a great time with my wife and daughter… Vera & I have been married 3000 days now (as of August 9/06) and I’m truly lucky to be with her. Funny… I stopped writing since I’ve been happy… most of my songwriting occurred when I was a walking heartbreak. I really think I need to get those down in some publishable form for my own therapy to move on and write some “happy” tunes about being a husband and father… to the wonderful women in my life…

Forza Italia

That’s my Sofia cheering for her favourite World Cup team (FORZA ITALIA!!). Sofia wore my “Azzuri” home jersey and, with flag in hand, helped cheer Italia to its 4th World Cup title. Not to be undiplomatic, up until its loss to France in the semi-final, Sofia was also cheering on her mother’s beloved Portugal (FORCA PORTUGAL!), but she wore the right jersey in the end…
